[107] Beale, Lionel Smith, Professor der Principles and Practice der Medicin am King's College und Physician am King's College Hospital zu London, ist daselbst 1828 geboren. Seine litterarische Thätigkeit ist eine ausserordentlich ausgedehnte gewesen, namentlich auf den Gebieten der Anatomie, Physiologie, Zoochemie, Histologie, Pathologie und pathologischen Anatomie. Allein in der Zeit von 1852–72 veröffentlichte er gegen 50 Aufsätze, in etwa 17 Zeit- oder Gesellschaftsschriften, zum Teil gleichzeitig oder nacheinander an mehreren Orten; wir heben unter denselben hervor: »The medical student a student in science. Introductory lecture .... Medical Department of King's College« (1858) – »On some points in the anatomy of the liver of man and vertebrate animals etc.« (1856 w. pl.) – »Tables for the chemical and microscopical examination of urine in health and disease« (1856) – »How to work[107] with the microscope« (1861 w. pl.; 4. ed. 1868) – »On the structure of simple tissues of the human body.
