[772] Holmes, Timothy, zu London, studierte im St. George's Hosp. daselbst, ist seit 1853 Fellow des Roy. Coll, of Surg. und zur Zeit Mitgl. des Council desselben, war auch Prof. der Chirurgie und pathol. Anatomie bei demselben, Surgeon des Kinder-Hospitals, Chef-Chirurg der hauptstädt. Polizei und Surgeon des St. George's Hosp. und ist jetzt im Ruhestande. Schriften: »A System of surgery, theoretical and practical, in treatises by various authors« (4 voll., London 1860 bis 64; 2. edit. 5 voll., 1869 bis 71 u.s.w.). Er bearbeitete darin selbst die Artikel: »Burns and scalds« – »Dislocations« – »Aneurism« – »Diseases of bone« – »Excision of bones and joints« – »Surgical diseases of childhood«; – »Surgical diagnosis, and regional surgery«. H. schrieb ferner: »The surgical treatment of the diseases of infancy and childhood« (Ib. 1868) – »A treatise on surgery, its principles and practice«. Zusammen mit Bristowe verfasste er: »Report on hospitals« (Sixth Annual Report of the Med. Officer to the Privy Council), veranstaltete eine neue Ausgabe von Gray's Anatomie und schrieb eine Anzahl von Aufsätzen für die Med.-Chir., Patholog. Transact., St. George's Hosp. Reports und versch. Zeitschr.
