[276] Copland, James, Mediziner, geb. 1792 in Deerneß auf den Orkneys, studierte von 1807 ab in Edinburg und praktizierte seit 1818 in London, wo er seit 1822 das »London medical Repository« redigierte und 12. Juli 1870 starb. Er schrieb: »Dictionary of practical medicine« (Lond. 1833–58, 4 Bde.; neue Ausg. 1865; deutsch von Kalisch, Berl. 1834–1859, 11 Bde.); »Outlines of pathology and practical medicine« (1822); »Elements of physiology« (nach Richerand, 1824); »On pestilential cholera« (1832); »On the diseases of warm climates« (mit Annesley, anonym); »On palsy and apoplexy« (1850); »On consumption and bronchitis« (1861).
