[81] Sigourney, Lydia Huntley, geb. Huntley, geb. um 1797 zu Norwich im Staate Connecticut, gab, 11 Jahre alt, bereits eine tägliche Zeitung heraus, gründete in ihrem 19. Jahre eine Privatschule für junge Mädchen u. lehrte mit großem Erfolg; 1814 war sie Vorsteherin einer Sammelschule in Hartford; sie schrieb dann viel für die periodische Presse der damaligen Zeit. 1819 verheirathete sie sich mit Charles S., einem Kaufmann in Hartford, u. widmete ihre Mußestunden literarischen Beschäftigungen; 1840 besuchte sie Europa u. lebte dann, mit literarischen Arbeiten beschäftigt, in Hartford.
