Er wurde 1828 Erfinder des Dampfwagens, indem er das System einzelner Röhren auf die Dampferzeugung statt eines Dampfkessels anwendete, aber die Anwendung seines Dampfwagens auf Chausseen hat sich noch nicht bewährt. Er st. am 5. Juni 1856 in Paris. 2) Miß Elisabeth, s. Fry. 3) Joseph John, Quäker, Bruder von G. 1), Bankier, war nebst seinem Bruder unablässig um die Freilassung der Neger u. ihr Führen zum Bessern bemüht u. st. 1847.
